Public Emergency Situations

Public health events that may require a risk assessment include, but are not limited to: 
 
  1. Outbreaks of infectious diseases:
    1. diseases of unknown origin, 
    2. new emerging or re-emerging diseases, 
    3. epidemic-prone diseases, or 
    4. zoonoses. 
  2. Events resulting from exposure to toxic or hazardous materials:
    1. falsified and counterfeit drugs or vaccines; 
    2. unusual reaction to medications or vaccines; food or water contamination; environmental contamination/exposure; 
    3. accidental release or deliberate use of biological and chemical agents or radio-nuclear material. 
  3. Other unusual or unexpected events representing a risk for public health. 
  4. Emergencies that may require a situation analysis include, are but not limited to:
    1.  Emergencies due to natural hazards:
      1. earthquakes, 
      2. tsunamis, 
      3. floods, 
      4. landslides or
      5.  avalanches,
      6.  extreme temperatures, 
      7. progressive drought, and 
      8. wildfires. 
    2.  Emergencies due to human-induced hazards:
      1. armed conflict, 
      2. civil unrest, 
      3. terrorism, 
      4. transportation crashes, 
      5. structural fires, 
      6. industrial explosions.
