Definition:

"the process of fertile land transforming into desert typically as a result of deforestation, drought or improper/inappropriate agriculture"

Desertification is a phenomenon that ranks among the greatest environmental challenges of our time. It is the persistent degradation of dryland ecosystems by human activities — including unsustainable farming, mining, overgrazing and clear-cutting of land — and by climate change. Above, sugar cane and soybean plantations have replaced hectare after hectare of jungle.
