5S term originates from Japanese work place effectiveness concept that describes how to organize a work place for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items, and sustaining the new standard and improving it further. It relies largely on Visual Controls, therfore 5S can be descibed as a work place visual control method

This foundation concept leads to effective deployment of concepts such as Kaizen (Continual Improvement) and Lean Manufacturing (Waste elimination)
